Sugar Cookies

I'm about to make dog bone shaped sugar cookies for this.

But I still have never found the bestest sugar cookie recipe in the world. Suggestions?

And I am definitely not the bestest dough roller outter/cookie cutter using baker. Wish me luck.

Sorry, no suggestions here. I also am a terrible dough roller. I have only made roll out sugar cookies maybe 2 or 3 times. Ever. Good luck!

(but I am making two of the Pioneer Woman's recipes today! Perfect Potatoes Au Gratin and Cinnamon Rolls. (which require rolling, I know. I've only made cinnamon rolls a handful of times, too)

I love the sugar cookie recipes that use sour cream.

This is the one I use. Nice and soft. Sometimes I omit the nutmeg--it doesn't bother me, but some people aren't fans of nutmeg.

I have been wanting to try this recipe. Her mom makes the best cookies so I am sure they are good. I tried the recipe for the best sugar cookie on yourhomebased mom and it was good. I love that it has no rolling out. But that not might not be what you are looking for with this.

HI Nancy,

I have been reading your blog for awhile and it is about time I say hello. (But I am afraid you might not remember me from high school.)


I used this recipe a few months ago to make heart cookies for my son's class. They turned out quite well. You might already know this, but instead of rolling onto a floured surface, used powdered sugar. The cookies are less likely to get hard and dry.

Thanks for all of the suggestions... I think I'm going to eventually make them all since I've been trying to find the perfect sugar cookie for awhile now.

Lisa- You'll have to let me know how PW's cinnamon rolls are. I saw that everyone was raving about them but they have coffee or something in the frosting and it seemed like that's what everyone was loving. If they aren't that fabulous of a cinnamon roll, I already have a great recipe.

I don't know if you ever found your fav sugar cookies yet, but if not, here's my friend, Cryptic Jennifer's recipe. Can I just say, it really is the best recipe for sugar cookies I've ever had. Maybe it's the almond extract? I dunno. ANYWAY! Enjoy!

Best. Sugar. Cookies. Ever (her title)

1/2 cup butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
1 egg
1 Tbsp milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/4 tsp almond extract
2 cups flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt

Cream butter. Gradually add sugar. Beat in egg, milk, vanilla extract, and almond extract. Add flour, baking powder, and salt.

Cover bowl and chill until dough is firm (about 30-45 minutes). Preheat oven to 375. Roll out. Cut into desired shapes. Put on greased cookie sheet (I usually use parchment paper.) Bake at 375 for 5-7 minutes. Transfer to cooling rack.
